After a few night of hard working... rolling around with Mirilis Action! Software to re-capture the footage in 5.1 source (since Sony never cares about mkv code and you will never trust yourself in setting the output code for a video) and do some work in Vegas... i am quite happy that i made myself a 5.1 Album out of the Mikunopolis Footage...
Since i have the 5.1 Surround Headset (Turtle Beach one) and it served me quite well for music. One day, i wonder if i can have some of my favorite music play in all 6 channels (or 6 speakers, 5.1 audio have 5 main speakers and 1 subwoofer), i did it first with the upmix plugin from Foobar and had a wonderful experience. Then i came up with the idea of taking the audio out of the Mikunopolis Footage that i have , since it has the 5.1 TrueHD audio in it.
First, it was quite tricky when i found myself stuck with Sony Vegas 11 and Vegas 11 doesn't support MKV output at all! I found myself at the middle of the road with 3 choices. 1, quit? (i am glad i didn't). 2, Convert the whole 4GB mkv file with 3rd party Converter and then re-edit in Vegas and 3 - Capture the Footage off the Media Player in 5.1 recording mode by an application like FRAPS or something else. I never trust myself in setting up the output setting in any Video Converter/Editor ( a lot of case i had in the past with Vegas and some gameplay footage, the video either have bad picture or the audio is completely off-sync...) , so i decided to go with option #3 - capture the footage.
If you are a PC gamer, you might have heard about FRAPS - One of the best Game Recording Software out there, i have one, i did record the footage of Media Player Classic just fine, but Sony Vegas completely denies the audio part of the FRAPS Video whenever i record it in 5.1 mode. Troubles after troubles, i was trying to quit before i saw the advertisement from Mirilis for the "Action!" software. Got interested by the comparation between Action! and FRAPS, i went for a full trial, and you know what... it records everything in 5.1 mode just fine and Vegas accepts the output-video just fine also.
After struggling a little bit for the output setting for the audio, i ruled out several requirements for the codec for the audio:
1. Must be 5.1ch Source
2. Must not be too big per files ( mine standard is not over 50mb/song, a FLAC song can be as large as 45mb/song)
3. Must be something play-able between various of Media Software (i have a Windows Phone, so in this case would be Zune Software)
4. The Quality of the Output-Audio must not be lower than 256kbps
After all, Vegas gave me a right choice : a Windows Media Audio (.wma) 5.1 , 384kbps , 16bit, 44.1khz. The output audio file is not that large at all (about 10mb/song, ~5% compressed). The audio quality compare to the original from the video is quite reasonable. (original :10/10 , album : 8.5-9/10 - My personal rating). And if you are asking... 5.1 Audio is backward compatible, mean if you don't have any 5.1 surround system, you can play it just fine on your normal headphone, 2.1/2.0 Speaker just fine.
But yes, hard word paid off, everything is done, and rdy to be uploaded.
